Dare I Dream It?

posted by J-Dizzle

Dreamsickle Eggs

Dare I even think it? Are these going to be the first of what I hope to be many Dreamsickles? I certaintly hope so! This clutch is from Dreamsickle x Raptor. And so it begins…..

Big things Poppin’

Tremper Albinos

Well maybe not so big but things are still poppin’. I was shooting for long shot Dreamsickles from Enimga het Raptor x Snow Raptor. It didn’t hit but I’m happy to hatch out anything so early on. Looks like my season is off to an extremely early start.

Update: RW & Het

posted by J-Dizzle

Rainwater Albino and Enigma het Rainwater

By now one thing must be painfully obvious, I’m either very lazy or an extremely busy man. I prefer to think the latter but you are free to believe either. Sometimes however I am doing on thing and as an residual benefit something else gets helped. On this occasional it’s an update. I had to take a couple of pics for someone and decided why not put them up here as well. Eventually I’ll be adding these two to the available page but for now it’s too much to ask. Maybe tomorrow, maybe.

and the winner is…….KIMBO!

Giant Leopard Gecko

Dilemma over. Kimbo and all 104 grams of him was who got paired to Sparkle my Ruby eyed Raptor holdback. Boys and girls the word for today is “delayed gratification”. Quite honestly I should’ve done this pairing last season but better late then never. Next year I will have a plethora over options so I’m ecstatic over the possibilities.

DEBATE: Dreamsickle vs. Giant het Tremper

posted by J-Dizzle

My head hurts, it hurts bad, I mean real bad. I cannot decide who to pair Sparkle with (Sparkle is the very first Raptor I ever produced). On the one hand the Dreamsickle is the obvious choice. That pairing can only produce amazing offspring; Raptors, Snow Raptors, Novas and Dreamsickles. But then there is the die hard breeder in me. And although those offspring are amazing, I’ve been wanting to put the Giant gene into various morphs for a couple of seasons now and just haven’t gotten around to doing it. The drawback to putting her with Kimbo (the Giant het Tremper) is

1.) It only produces hets versus the other option that produces absolute treasures

and

2.) I’d have to hold all of the offspring back to see which ones are Giants.

Holdbacks create a whole other problem because space is always at a premium. I don’t know, I just don’t know. What I might do though is breakout the ol’ digital camera and record who ever I pair her up with and post it tomorrow. If they don’t mind a voyeur looking in on them of course. Stay tuned..

Embers???

posted by J-Dizzle

This is more talking aloud (well more like typing aloud) then anything else. But seriously wtf is going on with Embers? I don’t see very many being produced and as far as how my project is going I can’t even get enough hets to make a project! I love the morph but something has to being going wrong on the genetics side cause they just don’t seem to want to reproduce. I’m getting tired of it, 2010 is my last year trying to make these things after that I’m out giving up.

Tough decisions

posted by J-Dizzle

Snow Albino het Raptor
(Mack Snow Albino het R.A.P.T.O.R.)

There comes a point in time when you have to make some tough choices. This is one of those times. As much as I hate to let this guy go, the fact is I have no use for him other then eye candy. He was going to be the stud for my Snow Raptors in 2010 but now that I’ve acquired Aggy (my Dreamsickle) he’d just be standing around watching all the other studs have fun while he twittled his fingers. So this is my tribute to him and I hope to find him a good home real soon.

Maybe I better not

posted by J-Dizzle

Dilemmas, dilemmas. This might just be a case of over thinking. In fact I’m pretty sure it is. Sometimes it gets like this when it’s the down part of year and there aren’t too many eggs in the incubator. Times when you can look at every single clutch and count the days until they hatch. Am I ever going to get to the problem? Yes right now, you see I’ve got a clutch in the incubator that has less than 10 days left but the medium sees to be drying out to fast. I don’t like to make a new mix and transfer over the clutch and I never just add water and therein lies the problem. Do I risk drying out the eggs that are so close to hatching by doing nothing or do I try one of the aforementioned methods that I’m really not to keen about. I’m not sure what I’m going to do but one things for sure, I better make up my mind pretty quickly.

Red Stripe

Amina is a Red Stripe and another of my first attempts. 2009 was the first year I bred Red Stripes and Amina like her name sake is definitely the Queen of the ’09 Red Stripe class. Too be honest I had her bin marked for sale. I was just waiting for her to reach a sale-able weight and was prepared to offer her up once she reached it. She looked like a hypo for the longest time and me being a newbie to Red Stripes I thought she wouldn’t look like much. Then one day WHAM! A red stripe started to appear, that coupled with her bright orange color made it instantly apparent that she would be staying here with me.

Bold Stripe

Unlike the previous post this Bold Stripe was produced here at Okeechobee Reptiles. This little girl is the product of my first attempt at Bold Stripes. She’s got pretty lavender sides like her mother and her stripe is developing nicely. I’m calling her Commerce because she is still on the market right now. If she doesn’t sell by the time she reaches 40 grams she stays with me though.
