Photo session nightmares

Blurred Tangerine

What is that you ask? That is what I get two hundred and ninety nine times out of every three hundred pictures that I take. That is why my available page is not inundated with new geckos. That is why everyday that I set out to take and post pictures of fifty geckos I actually get five completed. These little guys won’t hold still for anything in the world. I guess I could just place them in a tub, snap any ol’ picture and put it up, but that just isn’t me.

Site updates

posted by J-Dizzle

Sometimes I ask myself “why don’t I have a webmaster?” Why am I doing this myself? Anybody who doesn’t believe that keeping a website updated is a job within itself needs to try doing this for a week. The amount of work I assume I can get done is far different from what actually gets accomplished. I figured by weeks end, which happens to be today that I would have all the available pages updated with new animals, weights, and pictures. WRONG! So my daily updates will continue and hopefully by the end of next week I will have the available section complete. I’m not holding my breath though.

Ground hog day

posted by J-Dizzle

Every Wednesday for the past four weeks has started the same. Wake up, wait on delivery of feeders only to find somewhere between 60 and 100 percent of them dead. I understand we can’t control the weather but I am more then a little peeved. Every replacement order cost me shipping. I’m paying almost half again as much for my feeder orders these days because, and I hesitate to say this because I don’t want to bad mouth anyone; poor packaging. Is it too much to ask for a few heat packs and some insulation? I mean come on guys. I’m expecting a new shipment today but I already know it’s coming DOA. At least this time it won’t be the suppliers fault, FedEx had a weather delay. GREAT! 10,000 feeders stuck in 32 degree weather overnight. And guess what. Yup you guessed it, another shipping charge that I’m expected to pay in order to replace an order that was DOA due to no fault of my own. Yea thats fair!

Breaking through

Dorsal Stripe Enigma

Dorsal Stripes are a thing of beauty. Dorsal Stripe Enigmas are a thing of pulchritude. Reason being; to get a stripe on a trait that simply destroys patterns is something to marvel at. To break the inertia and display itself proudly is meritorious. Somehow, someway the stripe fights against the natural destruction of the dominate trait. That’s why I love them & that’s why I work with them!

Tub Setups

People keep asking about tub setups and how they look and what is used for hides and what do you use for water dishes and so on. So I decided to detail my typical setups for both adults and hatchlings.

On the left is an adult tub. There is a tupperware container in the back over the heat with a hole cut in the top that I use for a moist hide. The hole is on top to prevent the moss from being kicked out during egg laying. The blue bottle cap is the calcium dish and the water bowl is ceramic, I bought it from one of the local pet stores. The black dry hide was also bought from a pet store so each adult tub is not the cheapest in the world but I feel it’s money well spent.

On the right is a hatchling tub. There is also a tupperware container in the back but unlike in the adult tub, the hole is on the side. I find this makes it easier for newborns to gain entrance into the moist hides and prevents problems with the initial sheds. There is also the same bottle cap used for a calcium dish but the water bowl is a 2 oz portion cup. The dry hide is a 8 oz deli cup with a hole cut in the top. You also see a mealworm dish in there as well.

After 16 months

posted by J-Dizzle

I now officially own the domain that I should’ve owned in the first place. Okeereps.com is MINE! The short version of the story goes some jerk stole the name out from under me and then tried to gorilla pimp me and charge $1195 for me to get it back. I waited the fool out and since he didn’t renew it, it’s mine all mine!

So in short Okeechobee Reptiles can now be reached by:

1. Okeechobeereptiles.com
2. Okeereptiles.com
3. Okeereps.com

**I know the shorter names will be a little easier on the fingers**

Fingers crossed

posted by J-Dizzle

I’m in contention for something that I have been trying to get for about 16 months now. Because the process is ongoing I’m not comfortable with saying what it is just yet. I hope to have this situation decided by Monday but with these things you never really know. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Morph video

posted by J-Dizzle

For months I’ve had an idea to video some of my collection and post it up. Only one problem, I have no idea how in the heck to edit and post video….. Until today! Yes I had some free time on my hands and after several downloads of various free software and numerous editing attempts I have my first ever video. Congratulations to me, I’m very proud of myself. Anyway enough patting myself on the back, tell me what you think.

Hamm

posted by J-Dizzle

I’ve finally secured shipping to Hamm. It feels like quite an accomplishment even though in reality it probably isn’t as big as I’m making it out to be. It’s actually going to be quite affordable to those in Germany especially considering the Euro is worth more then the Dollar right now. In any event I’M NOW SHIPPING TO THE HAMM SHOWS THREE TIMES A YEAR. Man it feels good to get that out.

Florida cold???

posted by J-Dizzle

Shipping

How come the weather is always perfect for shipping when you buy or sell a gecko but as soon as the deal goes through the weather always seems to take a turn for the worse. It’s like it never fails, as soon as you put your dollars down it drops to like 20 below or something. I can’t understand this, it’s been the coldest it’s been around my way in a long time. Thankfully it’s warming up and shipping can resume. On the plus side everyone is five grams heavier.
